Workplace Anxiety: The Role of Social Comparison Strategies

Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the relationship between the tendency to social comparisons and the workplace-anxiety. The relevance is due to the presence of cases of mental distress among workers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the study was to search for the psychological characteristics of people experiencing anxiety in the process of work. Characteristics of the surveyed groups. Social comparison orientation along with workplace-anxiety were measured in the sample of 231 medical interns of young age (M=24,5, SD=2,14). The «Job-Anxiety Scale» (JAS), «Iowa-Nietherlands (INCOM) Social Comparison Orientation Scale» and the «Social Orientation Scale» were used. The results of the study demonstrate that the social comparison processes can influence workplace-anxiety.
