Mnemonic capacity of primary school children with impaired mental function 1848

Abstract
The study of mnemonic abilities of 7–12 years old mentally retarded children revealed that the structure of these abilities is characterized with underdevelopment, specificially, with almost total lack of operational mechanisms. The work of memory is based to major extent on functional mechanisms.The 7–12 year olds with mental retardation demonstrated only very early stages of formation of operational mechanisms of mnemonic abilities. The analysis of the results revealed the effect of subjects’ inability to copy simple nonverbal material after its correct reproduction. Possible causes of this effect are discussed.
