Abstract

The problems of applying the knowledge on personality and behavior of serial sexual killers that are derived from foreign and domestic research in law enforcement activities are discussed. The main directions of using this knowledge in the process of identifying, detection and investigation of serial sexual homicide are defined. The issues of developing the concept of “serial homicide”, the selection criteria for differentiating this criminal act, the classifications of this type of crime, as well as the specifics of sexual homicide as a serial kind are addressed. The results of some research on the behavioral consistency of sexual murderers are described and an evaluation of possibility of applying them in order to identify a series of crimes is given. The different models of psychological portraiture (profiling) of unknown serial killer applied in the practice of law enforcement agencies in order to establish the search features of a person involved in the crime are described. The necessity of a scientific approach to solving the problem of proving the involvement of a suspect in committing serial homicides is outlined. Issues of organization of scientific and methodological support for law enforcement agencies in the identification, detection and investigation of serial sexual homicide both in our country and abroad are discussed.
