Psychological peculiarities of development of intellectually gifted children at elementary school age

Abstract

The article provides some results of the comprehensive research of psychological specific of intellectually gifted elementary school pupils. One of the research goals was to reveal potential abilities of intellectually gifted elementary school pupils in the sphere of emotion recognition, divergent creativity and motivational personal development compared to their peers with average intelligence. The original research methods that allowed gaining new data on peculiarities of development of intellectually gifted pupils are described. The results show better development of emotional sensitivity, abilities to recognize and understand emotional experience of the other people both in visually and verbally produced situations demonstrated by gifted children. Gifted elementary pupils overcome their peers in verbal and artistic divergent creativity and also demonstrate more sensitivity to the conditions of solving creative tasks because of their high involvement in intellectual and creative activity.
