Evolutionary approach in socio-psychological research: gender differences as main determinants of status preferences

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of opportunities and perspective of using evolutionary approach in socio-psychological research. The essence of evolutionary paradigm is shown on concrete examples of human social behaviour. Peculiar psychological methods of social expectations diagnostics that аllow to reveal universal peculiarities in behaviour of men and women are presented. The article presents the results of research in men's and women's status preferences using D. Buss questionnaire «Events and Behavior Affecting Status and Reputation». It describes in details techniques and strategies of status behaviour typical for men and women depending on their social status.
