Abstract

The article addresses the relation between 'personal' and 'group' in the context of the group pressure topic. As it is shown both on the level of concepts and problems, regarding conformism and non-conformism as totally opposed alternatives would be inaccurate: the real alternative to both phenomena is genuine self-determination. Basing upon A. V. Petrovsky's theory of activity mediation of interpersonal relation- ships, as well as on the evidence provided in Russian and foreign studies, the article reveals that the only reliable and socially productive trajectory of personality development is one's consequent, activity conditioned self-determination aimed at successful integration in the open society.
