Abstract
The article tells a dramatic story of psychotechnics development in 1920s-1930s in the USSR. The scientific school was founded by I.N. Shpielrein, L.S. Vygotsky and S.G. Gellerstein. This author emphasizes that this school of thought developed under the influence of the ideas of G. Munsterberg, W. Stern, F. Taylor and some Russian psychologists as well. As the author puts it, from the very start psychotechnics became a scientific movement that spread all over the country. The international recognition of Russian psychotechnics came in 1931 when the International Conference on Psychotechnics was held in Moscow, at the time when psy-chotechnicians were being persecuted. In addition to this article we publish a «non-psychological» work by S.G. Gellerstein in which he analyses L. Carroll's book about Alice's adventures. In his essay S.G. Gellerstein focuses on the issues concerning experiencing time. A distinguished psychotechnician who was studying various aspects of work activity (including professionally significant characteristics, principles and methods of revealing individual differences in work), he noticed that Carroll addressed a deep psychological problem in his book: what does «remembering future» mean and what are those paradoxical shifts of past, present and future in one's experiences?
