Cultural-Historical Psychology #1/2008, Pages 27-36 Concepts of Health and Illness in the Linguistic Culture of Ancient RusAuthors: Philatov Ph.R. Keywords: health, illness, image of the world, metaphor, sociocultural model Abstract The author makes an attempt to reconstruct specific 'health models which were developed in the linguistic culture of ancient Rus and which reflect, in the author's opinion, significant sychological aspects of the nation's mental image of the world. Basing on various semantic and cultural studies, the author shows how 'standard' concepts of health and illness referring to the key vegetational metaphor "healthy strong as a tree" formed, differentiated and changed in the process of cultural-historical development. Exploring these forms of social representation of health and illness can be of much use both to medical and psychological practice.
