Thinking of Piotr Yakovlevich Galperin…

Sometimes people we meet change our lives completely. My encounter with Piotr Galperin happened to be exactly of that kind. In this paper I would like to reflect on how this meeting has been affecting me and my professional activities. I hope this might help to reveal those aspects of Galperin's work that are still relevant not only to myself, but to the whole educational and psychological community. I do think that the great potential of Galperin's theory of stage-by-stage formation has not yet been fully discovered and understood. It is with the intention of exploring the unrealised possibilities of this unique theory that I write this paper, in which my personal reminiscences are interlocked with theoretical analysis and practical applications of the theory of stage-by-stage formation.
