Psychological Analysis of Orienting Mentor Image in the Process of Real Self-Determination and Maturation 934

Abstract
The article presents the results of research which was aimed at studying the features of orienting mentor image in the process of adolescents' self-determination. The research was carried out during 2001–2004; 285 adolescents (1 to 3year students of the Moscow State University of Psychology and Education) participated in it. The author conducts theoretical analysis of the problem of one's selfdevelopment during maturation and defines certain concepts more precisely: 1) "real self-determination" is a new step in the process of selfdetermination that includes appropriation and subjectivation of means and strategies of coping with frustrative factors in solving agespecific tasks in the process of maturation; 2) "orienting mentor image" is the image of a significant person as the guide taking one into adulthood.Adolescents actively develop such images in the process of real selfdetermination. A special technique was created to analyze social situation of adolescent development (aged 18–25) and to reveal the multicomponent mentor image. The article presents the main results of the technique appraisal and its psychometric characteristics, as well as describes the area of its application.
