The Dynamics of Intellectual Abilities among Students with Different Typological Features of Manifestations of the Nervous System Properties

Abstract
The article presents the results of the study of the dynamics of intellectual abilities of students with different typological features of the nervous system properties manifestations. Seventy-seven 17-19 year-old male students of the Siberian State Automobile and Road Academy (SibADI) participated in the study. Intellectual abilities were assessed with the IST-test by R. Amthauer. Manifestations of typological features of the nervous system were investigated using the arbitrary motions techniques. The results indicate that 18-19-years-old individuals with the greater strength of the nervous system, high mobility of excitation process and with prevalence of excitation on "external" and "internal" balances have higher dynamics of intellectual abilities. Since the same students at the age of 17-18 exhibited a significant predominance of mental abilities manifestation had opposite typological characteristics (weak nervous system, low mobility of excitation, and predominance of inhibition of "internal" balance), there is a tendency of the age change of relations of nervous system properties with manifestations of intellectual abilities. The fact proves that the intellect dynamics are related to the typological features of nervous system manifestation, whose role in mental development changes during the ontogenesis. The authors believe that the identification of the unevenness of the age-related mental development, the different pace and rhythm of approaching to the functions "maturity" level are to some extent related to the different combination of age and individual prerequisites of development.
