Frustration and Coping Strategies in Students with Learning Difficulties

The article presents results of the study on frustration level, coping strategies and their relationship with personality traits in students successful and unsuccessful in learning. In a sample of 290 first-year students it was shown that frustration level correlates positively with anxiety, rigidity, aggression, stress and conservatism and correlates negatively with sociability, self-esteem, emotional stability, self-control, normative behavior, radicalism, internality level and professional orientation. Following the winter examination session it was determined that students with high frustration level in the period before the examination session will have poor GPA. In this regard, special attention is paid to internal and external factors of frustration – obstacles that complicate the academic success, as well as to the need of personality traits development that will ensure success in overcoming the encountered difficulties.
