Social Anxiety and Student Disadaptation

Abstract
The purpose of the presented study was to investigate the prevalence and levels of social anxiety in students, the connection between social anxiety and emotional disadaptation, the stress level and coping with stress strategies among students. One hundred and forty 3rd year students of a Moscow university on humanities have participated in the study - 94 women and 46 men (123 people live with their parents, 17 - live on their own). The study was conducted anonymously, face-to-face. The results indicate that students with high social anxiety have a higher level of emotional disadaptation in the form of the common symptoms of anxiety and depression, higher stress level and they use non-constructive ways of coping with stress more often compared with the students with low social anxiety. The targets for psychological help were identified.
