Visual and auditory influences in frequency change detection 1299

Previous research has shown that the auditory modality prevails in detecting temporal frequency changes when there is a discrepancy between the auditory and visual modalities. Little to no research has been done to show how the visual and auditory modalities cooperate when the temporal frequencies are perceived in parallel between the two sensory modalities. In experiment I, detection of temporal frequency changes are examined in separate modalities. In experiment II, the frequency changes were presented in parallel between both modalities. Comparison of these results shows support towards distributed temporal processing and multimodal sensory integration rather than auditory dominance of temporal perception.
