Abstract
The present work is devoted to the study of intelligence as one of the coping resources to overcome the effects of post-traumatic stress arising from participation in hostilities. The study shows that general intelligence negatively correlates with the severity of symptoms of post-traumatic stress. The level of intelligence is the mediating link between the level of severity of post-traumatic stress and the level of neuroticism, thus, the level of general intelligence as a resource for coping with stress is a critical factor for the individuals with high negative emotionality.

Keywords: posttraumatic stress, intelligence, neuroticism
