Smirnova E.O. PhD in Psychology, Рrofessor of the Department of Preschool Pedagogics and Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology of Education, Moscow State University of Psychology and Education, Moscow, Russia Sukhanova M.D. Psychologist, Children public library, Centrally public libraries system of North Eastern administrative district of Moscow, Moscow, Russia
The article provides a review of foreign studies on child’s attitude to property. The article deals with the psychological aspects of the property. The category of property lies at a crossroad of three spheres: subject-related, identity-related and interpersonal, which allows it to play a significant role in the development of self-awareness. The analysis shows that the property is of a particular importance in the development of self-awareness in childhood. Awareness of accessories items is a part of the process of child’s discression of his/her “self” and differentiation between "my" and "not mine". Thus property can serve as an external tool, mediating the formation of identity. The following characteristics are set to: 1) the system of property ownership and compliance; 2) source of information about the owner; 3) means of interpersonal relationships.
Keywords: property, attitude to property, structure of property, possession, utilization, object-related world, interrelation between property self-awareness, physical self, materialization of self, differentiation between "me" and "not me", guilt culture, interpersonal relations
