Age Specifics of Cognitive Activity Strategy Elaboration in 8-year-old Children and Adults

823

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the development level of the three components of cognitive activity strategy elaboration in adults and 8-year-old children. Assessment was performed based on four tests results: copying R.Taylor figure, retelling the story, «London Tower» task, and the modified test «20 questions». Results indicate that ability to plan the sequences of actions in 8-year-old children develops closely to the adult level. At the same time ability to understand the principle of organizing information and the choice of action on the basis of probability of success assessment has not yet sufficiently developed. Further studies on strategy elaboration possibilities on various stages of ontogenesis represent the perspective of the current study and can be used in development of teaching approaches.
