Dynamics of personal egocentrism phenomena in adolescence 2406

The issues of emergence and overcoming the personal egocentrism phenomena are discussed. Analysis of empirical data revealed a number of contradictions impossible to explain within the framework of existing theoretical models, as well as a method problems. The aim of the study was to investigate dynamics of personal egocentrism in adolescents using a classical method (AES-60 by R. Enright) and original ones («FLE» and «Situations»). The sample of 360 adolescents (aged 12 to 17) was divided into younger and older subgroups with roughly equal number of males and females. The results indicate that age limits of overcoming the egocentric phenomena are rather diffuse. The process of overcoming of the «Imaginary audience» and «Personal myth» phenomena is non-linear, and the phenomenon of «Being focused on oneself» does not exhibit the tendency to be overcome in the course of adolescence, which provides grounds to suppose that the phenomenon is not specific to adolescence.
