V.P. Zinchenko: On the Crossroads to the Future of Psychology

Abstract

This paper provides an insight into the major milestones and topics in the life and work of Vladimir P. Zinchenko. It focuses on his research of perception and movement as well as on some of his original methodological ideas about the history and future of several fundamental concepts in cultural-historical psychology, such as action, activity, interiorization, higher mental functions development. Also, the paper outlines Zinchenko’s thoughts on the inner and outer forms of action and on differentiation of action as an alternative to the principle of interiorization. It stresses the importance and potential of the reviewed issues for the future development of psychological knowledge.
