Adaptation period of a first-grader

Abstract

This work presents study on characteristics of adaptation period experience by a first-grader. Based on theoretical analysis of the transition from preschool to primary school period the problem of describing internal, emotional experiences of a child during the first weeks and months of school was set. An original projective technique was developed for experimental study of this problem. The technique is based on a comparison of children images on related topics. The application of this technique has revealed characteristics of emotional relationship to the school as a general age factor. The findings reveal characteristics of emotional relationship to the school and describe the specifics of the adaptation period of the first graders. The study urgently raises the problem of children emotional wellbeing in school and can become a starting point for a wide range of works studying the characteristics of the emotional state of schoolchildren.
