The article deals with the problem of teenager identity formation in today's social situation, as well as in the educational environment. We analyze the theoretical position on the role of social environment in human development, and the impact of the social environment in the formation of the identity of a modern teenager. We highlight the critical role of personal relationships in the formation of identity during adolescence, the role of the educational environment as a subsystem of the overall social and cultural situation, in the development and formation of the personality. The article presents the results of an empirical study of personal relationships of adolescents. The hypotheses of the study was the assumption that the modern social environment particularly affects the developing individual, in particular in the sphere of meaningful relationships. The results of these studies compared adolescents 12–13-year olds (1990-1991 and 2000-2001 years of birth). We describe the revealed differences in attitudes to the various areas and topics in adolescents of different generations.
