Notions of “intellect”, “mind”, “reason” in the patristic tradition 2409

Leonov V.
Candidate of Theology, Associate Professor of General pedagogy, faculty of pedagogy, PSTGU, Moscow, Russia

The article is devoted to the elaboration of the prime terms of Christian anthropology - “intellect”, “mind”, “reason”. Main provisions of the patristic doctrine concerning these higher forms of soul activity are represented briefly and consistently, necessary testimonies from the Holy Tradition are quoted and the prospects of further development of the topic are defined. Research of the above-mentioned notions in Christian tradition is still an undeveloped topic. The work may prove interesting to theologians, psychologists, pedagogues, philosophers, anthropologists and any person who is interested in anthropology topics and Christian vision of the man.

Keywords: intellect, mind, reason, thought, contemplation, intuition, wisdom, spirit, soul forces, anthropology

Column: Modern scientific psychology and orthodox spiritual tradition
