Social Psychology and Society Behavioral Response of Tuberculosis Patients to Disease-Associated Stigma 2225Sukhova E.V. Abstract
The paper reports data of a survey of male and female patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. The survey findings show that most patients feel themselves forcedly isolated and deprived of the necessary emotional support; they turn to God and consider their illness not as an infectious disease, but as social suffering; they dream of taking revenge on the society and do not take care of personal hygiene. The paper concludes that, tired of the treatment, the patients fail to follow the prescriptions, which, in turn, leads to the development of drug resistance in Mycobacteria.
