Данные, появившиеся в последние годы в науке, говорят о необходимости повышения эффективности деятельности по профилактике у людей с умственной отсталостью отклонений в состоянии их здоровья. В связи с этим в зарубежной психологии и педагогике активно изучаются факторы риска, оказывающие на него существенное влияние. В представленном обзоре современных зарубежных исследований, касающихся этого вопроса, рассматриваются малоподвижный образ жизни, избыточный вес и ожирение, курение табака, небезопасный секс, стресс у детей и взрослых с интеллектуальной недостаточностью; их распространенность, особенности воздействия; предлагаемые иностранными учеными специальные методы по предупреждению их отрицательного влияния.
