Social Ostracism and Tendency to Deviant Behavior of Adolescents

Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the phenomenon of social ostracism, including the definition, con-tent of existing forms and types, related phenomena from the point of view of the psychological paradigm. The article also describes the theoretical model of social ostracism — “the model of ostracism based on violated needs and taking into account the duration of exposure” by K.D. Williams (1997, 2009). The subject of the study is the psychological phenomenon of social ostracism as a factor of deviant behavior among adolescents. The results of an empirical study are presented on the example of a sample that includes orphans and children left without parental care brought up in institutional conditions. So, according to the results of the study, there is a correlation between personality constructs (coping strategies) in ostracized adolescents with deviant behavior and their tendency to deviant behavior.
