International Symposium Global Challenges and Social Change Initiative in Cape Town

ESRC Rising Powers – Global Challenges and Social Change Initiative Network Symposium is held in Cape Town, South Africa on March 7-9, 2011. This is the third symposium in the frames of the international project "Education, Well being and Emergent Economies of Brazil, Russia and South Africa". The previous events were held in Brazil (Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo) and in Russia (Moscow State University of Psychology and Education). The symposium participants are addressing the most ugrent social and educational policy issues faced by the country recovering after the years of apartheid: 

  • Can targeted schools funding imporve educational outcomes and education quality?
  • How to make education an effective "social elevator"?
  • How to overcome the leftover structural violence and social inequality? 
  • How the relationships between economical growth, education and well being are understood in different countries?
