Abstract

The article describes the results of the experimental study on estimating the attractiveness of women's faces. Young people aged from 20 to 30 (10 men and 10 women) participated in the experiment. A special computer program had been used for displaying photographs and recording answers. There were three hypotheses to be assessed. First, it was assumed that eyes play the most important role in estimating the attractiveness of one's face (in comparison with nose and mouth). This eyes-hypothesis was confirmed using the multilinear regression. Second, it was assumed that the attractiveness of women's faces might undergo some changes over a period of time due to pregnancy and childbirth. This hypothesis was also confirmed. And third, the experiment proved the known fact one's attractiveness affects the estimation of his/her personality characteristics by others: the more attractive a person is, the more positive is the estimation of his/her personality.
