Abstract

This article written for the M. I. Lisina anniversary and considers her contribution to the field of developmental psychology. A detailed analysis of M. I. Lisina's views that are not widely known is presented. The article discusses the role that communication with peers plays in mental development and development of personality (selfcognition and disclosure of the child's creative potential), as well as the value of communication with adults and peers for increasing the cognitive activity. The parallels between M. I. Lisina ideas and works of modern followers of Jean Piaget are drawn, showing the importance of discussions with peers for cognitive development. The works of M.I. Lisina and modern national and foreign psychologists show that communication with peers, even when it is realized on a lower level compared with the communication with adults still performs a unique function in the cognitive development.
