Fundamentals of Engestrom's Activity-Theoretical Concept of Expansive Learning and Development

Abstract

The paper focuses on the main ideas of activity-theoretical concept of expansive learning developed by Yrjo Engestrom. The aim of this current review is to outline the conceptual perspectives of applied psychological research in various areas of human work activity. The paper highlights the basic conditions and developmen- tal stages of expansive learning concept, its methodological principles (including the basic principle, according to which intervention is considered the most effective way of exploring human activity), and key methods. The paper also describes the characteristics of the new type of historically evolved learning: expansive learning.
