Formation of Writing Skills Following the Third Type of Orientation (Modification of N.S. Pantina's Technique)

2719

Abstract

The aim of this work was to modify and subsequently test the writing skills formation technique original- ly developed by P.Ya. Galperin and N.S. Pantina for group instruction with preschoolers. All modifications introduced are related with specifics of group instruction and age and leading activity of the subjects. The main stage of the research involved 39 subjects of late preschool age (20 boys and 19 girls, with average age of 6 years 5 months) that were divided into control and experimental groups. The research outcomes showed no differ- ences between the groups in the way the children copied the contours of new letters of the Russian alphabet; however, certain differences were revealed in the accuracy of copying Georgian letters and graphical elements with the change in scale. The results suggest that those children whose instruction was based on the modified technique developed a qualitatively new type of orientation in contour copying.
