Two conflicting methodologies in the studies of psychotherapy and its efficacy: in search for a third way. Part 2.

Abstract

The present article continues the discussion of methodological traditions in psychotherapy efficacy research started in the previous issue. The second part deals with the problem of knowledge integration in contemporary psychotherapy and presents different viewpoints on this issue. A non-classical scientific approach to this problem is outlined. A multifactor psychosocial model of affective spectrum disorders is proposed as a methodological basis for a synthesis of developments that have emerged within different schools and traditions. The basic principles for a study of the psychotherapeutic process are set forth, joining the results of objective statistical research with the possibilities of individualistic approach. The main principle proposed is the creation of an individualised trajectory for each patient, based on a synthesis of various data collected within different schools and empirical studies.
