Abstract

The variety of forms of primary education requires constant control over the mental development of students. According to the concept put forward by V.V. Davydov, during primary school there is a change in the type of thinking. From an empirical (unrelated) approach to solving problems, children move to a theoretical (generalized) one. Based on these ideas, the author developed a diagnosis of how to solve problems in general, i.e. to find out how (empirically or theoretically) the proposed problems were solved. The results obtained made it possible to assert that this diagnosis is effective for determining the theoretical thinking of primary school children.
