Fears of modern pre-schoolers and their connection with peculiarities of child-parent relations

The contribution presents the main results of research of fears of modern preschoolers, their dependence on changes in socio-cultural environment, as well as their connection with peculiarities of child-parent relations. The present research was carried out in children’s psychological centers and in children’s preschool institutions with children of senior preschool age and their parents (130 children from the senior group and 120 children from the preparation group). The results of the research allowed to describe the content of typical fears of modern children of senior preschool age and differences between girls and boys in this respect. Conclusions were made on existence of general and specific types of family upbringing related to origin of fears among 5–7-year-old children, the research also identified the peculiarities of perception of family situation by children with high and normative levels of fears. General types are: low level of emotional affinity, high level of anxiety. Specific types of interaction of 5-year-old children are: low level of acceptance and high confrontation of parents; 6-year-old – high level of demands, high strictness and incoherence of upbringing. Basing on the results of the research, a program of psychological correction of children’s fears was developed, based on harmonization of child-parent relations.
