Internal Picture of Disease in Children with Nephrological Disease and Chronic Kidney Disease

We present the research of internal picture of disease in children with varying degrees of renal dysfunction and a comparative analysis of the internal picture of disease in children with nephrological disease and chronic kidney disease. The study involved two groups of children being treated at the Department of Nephrology of Research Institute of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery and at the Department of Transplantation of Russian Children's Clinical Hospital. The methods of research involved structured clinical interview and pictorial method – a modified version of N.L. Belopol'skaya’s method of studying age and gender identification, as well as incomplete sentences method (V.E. Kagan, I.K. Schatz). [5]. The study revealed the specifics of internal picture of disease in children with nephrological diseases: low level of knowledge about their own illness, absence of pain, high level of anxiety and fear concerning the future, with the motivational structure being intact. The specifics of internal picture of disease in children with chronic kidney disease is higher level of knowledge about their own disease, high level of anxiety, pain mainly associated with hemodialysis. Motivation in children with chronic kidney disease is intact but situational. All their thoughts and desires are focused on the successful transplantation, as a condition of normal life in the future.
