Russian aircraft psychology in the 21st century

Abstract

Basing on historical-methodological analysis the authors characterize the achievements of contemporary Russian aircraft psychology, namely development of its subject-matter, conceptual apparatus and the system of scientific methodology as well as making of established scientific schools. Technical progress in aircraft creates new methodological and methodical problems that require reflection and fundamental research employing accomplishments of contemporary psychological science. Topical theoretical and applied issues in aircraft psychology are the following: Substantiation of methods of balanced pilot’s training on simulators and in actual flights; Development of training methods for pilots’ preparation for sudden (in case of automatic flight control system failure) transition from automatic to manual or semi-manual flight control; Implementation of the system for psychological screening of enrollees with prognosis of personal development in aircraft professional sphere; Implementation of personality-oriented methods of instruction and training aimed at development of pilots’ abilities to make responsible and creative decisions at all the stages of professionalization; Investigation of psychological peculiarities of collaborative activity of specialists from different aircraft services; Critical analysis of mutual influence of Russian and foreign aircraft psychology; Improvement of methods of psychological work in the system of moral and psychological support of aircraft military actions.
