The Connection Between Emotional Intelligence, the Level of Loneliness and Characteristics of Attitudes towards Parents in Adolescence

Abstract

This article examines the connections between emotional intelligence, the level of loneliness and the characteristics of adolescents’ relationships with their parents. Adolescence is characterized by significant emotional changes that affect adolescents’ social relationships and self-esteem. The study is based on theoretical concepts of emotional intelligence, the phenomenon of loneliness and child-parent relationships, developed by both domestic and foreign psychologists. In the empirical part of the work, methods of psychodiagnostic research and correlation analysis were used to identify relationships between the parameters under study. The study involved 76 people aged 12 to 16 years. The results show that high levels of emotional intelligence in adolescents are associated with low levels of loneliness and positive relationships with parents. There is also a positive correlation between subjective feelings of loneliness and the hostility of both parents, and a negative correlation between subjective feelings of loneliness in adolescence and parents’ positive interest in their children.
