Abstract

Modern transformations in the labor sphere, including the rise of hybrid forms of employment and the high variability of working conditions, necessitate the development and validation of tools for assessing employees' proactive behavior. One such tool is the Job Crafting Questionnaire (JCQ), developed by G. Slemp and D. Vella-Brodrick. The aim of the present study was to adapt the Russian version of the JCQ and to modify it by introducing a new domain—a subscale of environmental crafting—followed by an examination of its factor structure, reliability, and construct validity.
Two samples participated in the study: 800 respondents in 2023 and 300 respondents (modified version) in 2024. The methodology included exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA), reliability assessment (Cronbach’s α, McDonald’s ω), and item discrimination analysis (GRM). The results supported the original three-factor structure of the JCQ (task, cognitive, and relational crafting), and a four-factor structure when the new subscale of environmental crafting was added. The total explained variance in the four-factor model was 62%, with α values > 0,85 and ω values > 0,88. Most items demonstrated high discrimination (a > 1.5). Construct validity was confirmed through positive correlations with the previously validated Russian version of the Job Crafting Scale (JCS) by M. Tims, A. B. Bakker, and D. Derks (r = 0,40–0,65) and the PAS scale (r ≈ .45). These findings confirm the reliability and validity of the Russian JCQ, including its modified version.
