Verbal Intelligence and its Electrophysiological Correlates

285

Abstract

Verbal intelligence in the paradigm of individual mental experience is the ability to analytic-synthetic mental activity, functioning in a complex-structured associative-categorical continuum of mental representations. This article presents the results of the study, the subject of which are neurophysiological correlates of mental activity, including spatial localization and intensity of bioelectric activity of the cortex of the large hemispheres. An experimental 2 x 2 scheme was implemented, where “the nature of the instruction” and “the leading method of grouping” acted as independent variables. As a result of spectral, coherent and amplitude analysis, differences in bioelectric activity of brain regions at the level of EEG resting were established and when performing test tasks between groups of respondents with specific and abstract verbal intelligence performing tasks with characteristic/uncharacteristic instruction.
