Features of Constructive Coping and Personal and Professional Development of Students of Psychological and Pedagogical Classes

Abstract

The research is aimed at studying the features of coping behavior strategies and personal and professional development of students of psychological and pedagogical classes. An empirical study was conducted with students of psychological and pedagogical classes (n = 55) of secondary schools in Arzamas. As a result, it was revealed that the main ways of coping with stress of high school students are non-constructive strategies - coping, focused on avoidance (58.18%), distancing (56.36%), escape-avoidance (49.09%), confrontation (40%); also, the majority of students revealed a low level of personal and professional development (60%), which confirms early research on the unavailability and, in some cases, unwillingness of most students to further develop in the teaching profession. The author demonstrates the relationship between integral personal characteristics and coping strategies: the direct relationship of constructive coping strategies with integral characteristics (orientation, competence, flexibility) and self–awareness and the reverse with non-constructive strategies is revealed.
