Abstract

The paper focuses on the personality and professional activities of V.P. Zinchenko, the most prominent Russian psychologist of the last quarter of the 20th century. The patterns of his thinking are considered as independent, creative, non-linear, poetic, and polyphonic, while the geometry of his academic career is described in terms of accelerating expansion of space. The paper also highlights the following essential cate- gories of the scientist's semiosphere: independent action, living movement, image of the world, concern for existence, creative comprehension, and living memory. As it is stated, V.P. Zinchenko had a unique status in Russian psychology that originated from his ability to perceive the whole historical body of his profession as a personal and family space and to relate to it accordingly, striving to preserve its integrity. Along with his well- known concepts, institutes, chairs and experiments, V.P. Zinchenko created a cultural-historical product of great importance to the development of psychology: that is, his own personal style of life in the profession, the key characteristics of which are 'limitless vitality' and 'festiveness'.
