Abstract

Research aim: theoretical analysis of multi-sided scientific and educational activities of V.P. Zinchenko, one of the great Russian psychologists, member of the Russian Academy of Education. Research methodology stems from the interaction between such types of modern system analysis of scientific activity as sociocultural, biographical, his- toriographical, subject/topical, conceptual/methodological. As a result, research into the history of Russian psy- chology serves as a background against which a story of V.P. Zinchenko's life and activities unfolds. The paper high- lights the role of his interdisciplinary communications with a wide circle of prominent scholars in the fields of social, natural and technical sciences and reveals the inner logic of his contributions to the solution of various problems in general and applied psychology: from the investigations of cognitive development and the relationship between cog- nitive and executive activity, via the design of engineering and psychological specifications for equipment, to the conceptual and psychological analysis of the role of intuition, reflection and consciousness in creative acts within sci- entific and artistic activities. V.P. Zinchenko was tireless in promoting the achievements of Russian 'humanolo- gy'(that is, the philosophical and psychological concept of G.G. Shpet, the cultural-historical approach of L.S. Vygotsky and A.R. Luria, the general psychological theory of activity of A.N. Leontiev, the concept of mental activity formation of P.Ya. Galperin and A.V. Zaporozhets, N.A. Bernstein's concept of the physiology of activity, and the concept of developmental teaching of D.B. Elkonin and V.V. Davydov), which enabled him to elaborate constructive organization principles of executive and cognitive activity in the context of such social practices as ergonomics and pedagogy. This, in turn, led V.P. Zinchenko to establish a school of thought in engineering psy- chology and to integrate his research findings into a holistic philosophical and psychological system of humanology.
