Current issues in professional selection and job training in psychoterapy

Abstract

Author analyzes psychotherapy as a profession and discusses issues related to therapy education for psychologists. The paper reviews the current state of problems associated with professional selection, training and retraining for future psychotherapists. The criteria which are used in diffrent countries are examined: letters of recommendation, research experience, the results of interviews, extracurricular activities, work experience in social institutions. Examples of using such methods as interviews, group games and discussions in the selection of future therapists in a Russian university are described.
