Sound perception of modern acoustic environment: some trends of empirical studies

2005

Abstract

The article is devoted to recent empirical research in the field of auditory perception in natural situations as well as to the analysis of the obtained results and the methods used in psychoacoustics. In addition, attention is paid to the discussion of the physical model describing the acoustic events in a natural environment. It is shown that psychoacoustic studies are characterized by ecological perspective, interdisciplinarity and the expansion of applied research. The specific features of the modern acoustic environments consist in the wide use of the Information Technologies. The main problems of such studies are related to their ecological validity and the choice of experimental methods, the prospects for solving these problems within the paradigm of perceived quality and the perceptual-communicative approach are discussed.
