Selection of culture-specific emotion evocative pictures for experimental studies

406

Abstract

Success in research of the emotion depends on effectiveness of stimuli which are used to induce affect. The aim of the present study was to collect new set of emotion evocative pictures for the Russian sample. One hundred six participants evaluated emotions induced by pictures which represented different life situations and objects (delicacies, family, sport, garbage, homeless, disasters, disturbances etc.) on valence, arousal and dominance scales. Ratings are proved to be reliable thus they could be used as norms for selected pictures. It has been shown that the arousal of the emotion is higher and dominance is lower in females in comparison to males. Therefore it is necessary to use independent norms for subjects of different sex.
