Abstract

The following article is devoted to the study of the comparative characteristics of euphemization in A.S. Pushkin’s and F.M. Dostoevsky’s works. The article considers the peculiarities of the use of euphemisms in Russian realistic literature based on specific literary material and the reasons for their late study in Russia in the 20th century. Based on the works of A.S. Pushkin and F.M. Dostoevsky, the main signs of realism in Russian literature are shown, as well as the use of euphemisms to give language a «literary» form and create characters’ characteristics. The material provides additional information for translation and studying Russian literature.
