The Influence of Syntactic Means of Representing Time and Space on the Image of a Character in M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin’s Fairy Tale “The Lost Conscience”

11

Abstract

The image of a character in a literary text is realized by a set of various means, and not only the description of physical qualities fills the characters up with characteristics. Spatial and temporal indicators determine how a character “exists” in a fictional world, and leave the imprint of the narrative created by the author (epoch and change of events) on him. Using the example of a character (conscience) from M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin’s fairy tale it is shown how syntactic constructions shape space, time and the appearance around the character.
