Abstract

The article deals with the issue of creation of language environment motivating children to study foreign languages. It provides the analyses of questionnaires with parents' and teachers' responces on the purposes why children start learning foreign languages. The conclusion is that the parents are much more motivated than the children themselves and their interest is pragmatic by nature (considering education in English-language countries and finding a good job). It is necessary to promote other aspects of motivation such as linguistic and cognitive interests.
