Gifted children: today’s tendencies and tomorrow’s challenges

3329

Abstract

The article examines modern tendencies in working with gifted children. It is shown that they are based on the so-called “technological approach”, the essence of which is the urge to have clearly described technologies allowing to control the process of formation of the gifted child’s personality and talents. Attention is given to its counterproductiveness, because it transfers the attention of the researchers and the practitioners from the main goal of the development of gifted children – preparation of spiritual elite of the society - to solution of particular development problems: selfregulation skills, separate cognitive processes. In this context the article proposes an approach which was long ago announced by the representatives of humanistic psychology, and which is based on cooperative work with the gifted child on his life goals and principles, with the “dominant life project”, child’s inclusion in the world cultural context, providing him with experience of “responsible leadership”.
