1869

Abstract

The article is devoted to anecdote as a small verbal genre, to its analysis and use in English teaching. The main aim of the study is the use of this verbal genre as effective means of developing language skills in teaching English. We use lexicalsemantic and structural analysis of English language jokes, considering cultural and linguistic units. Special attention is given to ways of units transmission at different levels in English to Russian translation. We discuss the question of jokes translation adequacy without losing the humorous component. We emphasize that the use of jokes at English lessons is one of the most successful and exciting ways not only to teach students but also to introduce them to foreign as well as native culture through intercultural communication. The results of this work can be used for teaching of foreign languages and cultures, as well as a basis for further research in this area.
