The significance of methods of neuropsychological assessment of cognitive dysfunctions in the system of contemporary neurorehabilitation

Abstract

The article deals with neuropsychological branch of rehabilitation of patients with organic brain impairments. The consequences of insults, traumatic brain injuries and brain surgery include pronounced impairments in speech, memory, attention, perception and cognitive processes. The article outlines the main principles of analysis of higher mental functions disorders, requirements to the set of diagnostic tools and the significance of neuropsychological assessment in the system of contemporary complex rehabilitation. Cognitive functioning impairments become the reason for profound disability in brain injury survivors. Neuropsychological work is the most important aspect of neurorehabilitation of such patients. The methods of neuropsychological assessment proved their validity in clinical work with insults, traumatic brain injuries, neuroinfections, brain tumors etc. Neuropsychological assessment gives opportunity to carry out reliable scientific research (including interdisciplinary ones) and efficiently solve a range of serious clinical problems.
